Gudmundur Gudmundsson, better known as Erró, is one of the best known artists of Iceland.
Born in 1932, Ólafsvík, Iceland.
Based in Paris, France

Erró is considered one of the pioneers of Pop Art and European narrative figuration. Erró reassembles imagery from a variety of popular sources including comics, advertisements and posters. He creates colorful, cacophonous paintings, silk screens, and collages, and produces seemingly humorous paintings, which carry political, cultural and social messages.

In 1989 Erró donated a large collection of his works to the Reykjavik Arts Museum, which has put part of it on permanent display. In 2001 a museum dedicated to his work opened in Reykjavik.
A major retrospective of 50 years’ worth of his collages was held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2010.

In 2000, the Icelandic Parliament awarded him the Honorary Artists Stipend
