"My sister Sarka"
Review by Uzi Zur (December 04, 2025)
Published in Haaretz, Culture and Literature, "Closing One Eye".
I have great sympathy for gallerists and collectors, such as Yair Shulevitz, the owner of "Gallery Yair" behind the facade of the small gallery on Ibn Gvirol Street in Tel Aviv, which is now covered in ruins. Shulevitz's art collection and his gallery represent a distinct cross-section of the quality minor voice in Israeli art for generations.
At the age of 23, Shreka Shulevitz purchased, with the little money she had, an extraordinary work by the young Yigal Tumarkin. An acquisition that began her private art collection.
The older sister's love and obsession with art infected the younger brother and shaped his life. The sister and brother's collections stem from a love of art and a personal connection with the artists whose works appear in the collections.
Beyond the beauty of the art displayed in the exhibition, it overwhelms you with the love of a brother for his sister through art.
